Hearty Cheese Marinara Dip
Here's a delicious recipe that I sampled at a recent "Lunch and Learn" put on by Buy 4 Less on Portland in Oklahoma City. Special thanks to Becky Varner, R.D., L.D. of the Oklahoman for her expertise and kindness. ![]()
Hearty Cheese Marinara Dip
Ingredients
1/2 pound 90% lean and 10% fat ground beef
14 oz jar of GF pizza sauce
16 oz package 2% fat milk Velveeta cheese, cubed
1/2 tsp Italian seasoning
1 1/2 tsp cornstarch
Directions
Start ground beef cooking in skillet over medium heat. Add 1 cup water and stir occasionally while meat cooks. When beef is thoroughly cooked with no pink color remaining, pour remaining liquid in glass container and refrigerate to allow fat to surface. The hardened fat can be removed and the defatted stock used as base for soup at a later time.
Combine pizza sauce, Italian seasoning and cornstarch in slow cooker and stir. Add Velveeta and cooked beef. Mix well and cover. Cook on low for about 2 hours. Stir before serving. Serve with gluten free crackers for dipping. This recipe makes six - 1/2 cup servings. Each serving contains approximately 180 calories and 9 grams of fat.
